Coming Home

Wherein Annie catches us up in a slightly more grounded way, before resorting to one of her favorite activities, reading aloud from her writing.  Which this week included a lengthy quote from a book her shrink gave her, “Daily Affirmations for Forgiving, and Moving On.”  Make some green tea, or smoke some green, kick back, and have a nip of philosophy/psychology/fun with Annie.

Austerlitz

In which Annie buys a house, decides to move and is able to give voice to her story for the first time in a more cohesive way, during an open mic on NYC.

In which Annie gets kicked out of standup comedy school, by one of the greats in the industry.  And struggles with her own limitations, the tough stuff life throws at you, and comes out feeling like she's got a think about or frame the adversity that inevitably comes to each of us in life.

In which we hear from some of Annie's other parts and they share some background from childhood. And Annie self-identifies for the first time as an addict.

Easy Does It

It's Super Bowl Sunday, and Annie ventures out to see some comedy at The Fat Black Pussycat, where she inadvertently scares a comedian, and finds her way to an AA meeting with some happy results.  Also we hear an outtake of her performance at an open mic and about the latest dude she's spent time with... who is... [wait for it]- married.  [sigh.].

Be Sand, Not Oil, [for Paul].

In this episode we hear several more of Annie’s “parts” make an appearance in an excerpt from another therapy session with Dr. X. As well as catching up on some of her progress, and struggle, in managing a difficult relationship with her mom. This episode is for Paul, and Annie reads a short excerpt from his beautifully curated, edited, printed, and bound book “Be Sand, Not Oil” on the life and work of Amos Vogel. Amos Vogel, in the words of Scorsese: “The man was a giant,” who remained dedicated to the avant-garde, and film as a subversive art, throughout his long and fruitful life.
